19. The Diagnosis of the Tongue in Oriental Medicine.

In Oriental Medicine, tongue diagnosis is an ancient practice that offers deep insight into a person's health status. Considered as a microsystem of the body, the tongue reveals internal imbalances, hidden emotions and the energetic condition of the organs. This diagnostic method is one of the cornerstones of traditional Chinese medicine, and its importance has endured throughout the centuries, being valued by both traditional doctors and those seeking to better understand their health from a holistic perspective.

The Art of Reading Language: A Mirror of the Body

Language diagnosis is not simply a superficial observation. It is an art that requires training and experience to perform accurately.

Oriental Medicine doctors study the tongue for about 10 years in various aspects: color, coating, shape, mobility, size, moisture, and the characteristics of the tips and edges.

Each of these elements can provide essential clues about the internal state of the body and its organs.

As long as it is accompanied by other diagnostic aspects such as the pulse, verbal and non-verbal communication, the touch of energy resonator points and the different parts of the body such as the iris, complexion, body posture, among others.

1. The Color of the Tongue: Reflection of Energy and Organs

The color of the tongue is one of the first aspects analyzed in a diagnosis. A healthy tongue is generally pink in color, indicating a proper balance of energy (Qi) and good blood circulation. However, when the color varies, we may be faced with different imbalances:

Red Tongue: A reddish color on the tongue usually indicates the presence of internal heat, which may be associated with inflammation, infections or intense emotions such as anger. If the tongue is intensely red, it could suggest an excess of Yang, the hot and active principle in the body.

Pale Tongue: A pale tongue is a sign of Qi or blood deficiency, which indicates that the body lacks vital energy. This color may be related to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness and feeling cold.

Purple or Bluish Tongue: The presence of a purple or bluish tone suggests blood stagnation or the presence of internal cold. This stagnation can manifest itself in the body as pain, circulatory problems or chronic diseases.

2. The Coating of the Tongue: Indicator of Internal Conditions

The coating of the tongue, also known as a coating, is another crucial feature in diagnosis. The normal coat is thin and white, reflecting good digestive status and balance in body fluids. However, when the coating changes in color or thickness, it may be indicative of unbalanced internal conditions:

Thick and White Coating: This type of coating suggests the presence of cold or humidity on the body. It may be related to digestive problems, fluid retention or the presence of phlegm.

Yellow Coating: A yellow coating indicates heat in the body, especially in the digestive organs such as the stomach or liver. This heat may be due to infections, inflammation, or a diet rich in hot and spicy foods.

Grey or Black Lining: When the lining is gray or black, it is a sign of a serious illness or severe stagnation. This type of tongue requires immediate medical attention, as it may be indicating an advanced chronic pathology or a critical imbalance in the body.

3. The Shape of the Tongue: Key to Identify Imbalances

The shape of the tongue also provides valuable information about internal health. A swollen or inflamed tongue can signal problems with fluid retention or Qi deficiency, especially in the spleen and kidneys. On the other hand, a thin tongue may indicate a deficiency of blood or body fluids:

Swollen Tongue: Indicates a Qi deficiency that affects the body's ability to move fluids, resulting in retention and a feeling of heaviness. It may be associated with bloating, feeling full after eating, or general weakness.

Thin Tongue: A thinner than normal tongue suggests a deficiency of blood or fluids, which may be related to symptoms such as dry skin, dry eyes and a feeling of exhaustion.

Cracked Tongue: Cracks in the tongue are a sign of internal heat or fluid deficiency. This may be associated with conditions such as dehydration, fever, or imbalances in yin, the cold, passive energy of the body.

4. Mobility and Size of the Tongue: Indicators of Internal Energy

The mobility of the tongue and its size are also important in the diagnosis. A rigid tongue may indicate energetic stagnation or the presence of internal wind, which in Eastern Medicine is associated with disorders such as tremors or dizziness:

Rigid Tongue: It can be a sign of internal wind or stagnation, which in clinical practice translates into symptoms such as spasms, tremors or numbness. This type of tongue suggests that there is a blockage in the flow of energy, which may require immediate treatment.

Trembling Tongue: A trembling tongue may suggest a deficiency of Qi or blood, or the presence of internal wind. This condition is common in people with anxiety, extreme exhaustion, or after a prolonged illness.

5. Tongue Dampness: Evaluating Fluid Balance

The wetness of the tongue is a direct reflection of the balance of fluids in the body. A wet tongue indicates a good state of body fluids, while a dry or sticky tongue can suggest more serious problems:

Wet Tongue: Indicates a proper balance in body fluids and is generally a sign of good health.

Dry Tongue: A dry tongue suggests a fluid deficiency, which may be associated with dehydration, fever, or excess heat in the body.

6. Tips and Edges of the Tongue: Revealing the Emotional State

The tips and edges of the tongue can reflect the emotional condition and health of specific organs such as the heart and liver. For example, red tips often indicate warmth in the heart, which may be related to emotional stress or anxiety:

Red Edges: They suggest heat in the liver, which is related to emotions such as anger or frustration. This type of tongue may be present in people who experience constant irritability or tension.

The Importance of Language Diagnosis in Oriental Medicine

Language diagnosis in Oriental Medicine is a practice rich in knowledge and tradition.

It not only offers a deep insight into a person's physical state, but also connects physical well-being with emotional and energetic well-being. By understanding what the tongue reveals, Eastern Medicine doctors can design personalized treatments that address both the visible symptoms and the underlying causes of imbalances in the body.

For those seeking a more holistic and preventative approach to their health, tongue diagnostics are an invaluable tool. However, it must always be accompanied by all diagnostic aspects such as the pulse, verbal and non-verbal communication, the touch of energy resonator points and the different parts of the body such as the iris, complexion and body posture to give a assertive and complete diagnosis.

Traditional Oriental Medicine and the Chinese New Year of the Wooden Dragon 2024

On the threshold of the Chinese New Year of the Wooden Dragon, which begins on February 10, 2024, we explore the practice of rituals, recognized for their auspicious nature.

Why might you do these Rituals?

These rituals are based on the idea of balancing energy and attracting positive influences during the Year of the Dragon. Although common practices, specific interpretation may vary depending on individual traditions and beliefs.

Rituals in the Chinese New Year wooden dragon can have a significant connection with the subconscious through several psychological mechanisms:

1. Symbolism: Elements used in rituals, such as images of dragons, specific colors or symbolic gestures, can have deep meaning on the subconscious level. These symbols can activate deep-rooted associations and emotions in the mind.

2. Repetition and Routine:The repetition of rituals creates a routine that the subconscious recognizes and associates with certain emotional states or intentions. This can influence the way you perceive and respond to everyday situations.

3. Focus and Mindfulness:By consciously participating in rituals, you immerse yourself in the present, which can calm the mind and reduce anxiety. This mindfulness can have positive effects on the subconscious, influencing patterns of thought and behavior.

4. Setting Intentions:By reflecting on goals and aspirations during rituals, you are setting conscious intentions that can permeate the subconscious. This can influence your decision making and the direction of your efforts over time.

5. Emotional Conditions:Rituals are often accompanied by specific emotions and moods. These emotional conditions can be associated with ritual practices and, over time, influence how you feel and perceive certain situations.

Rituals act as bridges between the conscious and subconscious, using symbols, repetition and focus to impact the mind in ways that can influence perception, emotions and behavior at a deeper level.

Considering the Year of the Dragon from the perspective of Eastern Medicine and health, here are some general recommendations:

1. Balance in Nutrition:

2. Hydration and Tea:

 – Stay well hydrated with warm water or herbal teas that align with your specific health needs.

 – You can incorporate teas that are appreciated in Chinese medicine, such as green tea or jasmine tea, known for their beneficial properties.

3. Moderate and Sustainable Exercise:

 – Adjust your exercise routine according to your physical condition and individual needs.

 – Spend time consciously breathing, focusing on deep, slow breaths to calm the mind and energize the body.

 – Explore specific breathing techniques such as abdominal breathing or diaphragmatic breathing.

16.Perception of Traditional Oriental Medicine by Sheng Health student.

In this blog I talk about the different perceptions that some people have about Traditional Oriental Medicine.

What is Traditional Oriental Medicine?

Traditional Eastern Medicine is a type of medicine that is based on the idea that there is an energy called QI.

QI energy flows through pathways that are immersed in the human body, these pathways are recognized as meridians; In this medicine, the obstruction or imbalance of the flow that the QI energy should normally carry through these meridians produces what is the disease.

In China, doctors have practiced Traditional Oriental Medicine for thousands of years and this type of Medicine is gaining more and more strength in various countries around the world. Traditional Oriental Medicine has been developing and operating for more than 4,000 years.

According to this medicine, the causes of QI imbalance have to do with:

External forces: such as wind, cold or heat.

Internal forces: such as the emotions of joy, anger or fear.

Lifestyle factors: such as diet, lack of sleep or excess alcohol.

Taking into account the above, which is a brief idea of what makes up the bases of Traditional Oriental Medicine, gives way to the perception that many people have about this Medicine.

Learn more about Traditional Oriental Medicine in this blog: 5 elements and emotional regulation

Perception of Oriental Medicine as something esoteric

Commonly, a large part of Western society has a somewhat esoteric perception about the functioning and work applied in Traditional Oriental Medicine; One of the reasons why this can happen is because human beings are still alien to their spiritual dimension, that is, they have not connected with themselves, they do not recognize themselves, therefore, they are still involved and governed. by the system and social unrest, which is everything that limits and slows down our growth and often makes us believe that what is considered real at a social level, that is, everything that science can explain is the only thing that exists and what they cannot perceive and/or explain is not It is, this is why we must wake up and look for ways that truly strengthen our being.

When you embark on the path towards knowledge of this Medicine and better yet, you have that contact with the various therapies that it offers us, the perception of oneself and the outside world expands and changes, because that union is achieved. with that intangible something that connects with the being, therefore, allows you to experience and feel well-being and healing.

The therapies used in Traditional Oriental Medicine not only focus on healing, but also on seeking the balance between the physical, the internal and the spiritual, therefore, Traditional Oriental Medicine is a comprehensive medicine for the being. Many people find themselves in dissonance with these therapies and this culture for the reason mentioned above, since they allow themselves to overlook that human beings are much more than flesh and blood, that we are magical beings with unimaginable but true virtues and talents, that we possess an infinite power of creation that we must preserve, cultivate and seek the tools to strengthen and intensify it.

Perception of Oriental Medicine as Alternative Medicine

Traditional Oriental Medicine, in addition to being perceived in an esoteric way by some people, is also perceived by other types of people as an alternative medicine that is true and that connects and seeks the integrity of the being, but these people are not usually decisive in the moment of having contact with this medicine, that is, they are not totally willing to receive any treatment related to Traditional Oriental Medicine, in accordance with the above, these people have a basis of what the medicine is and means, however, they are partly inhibited to seek their freedom and internal balance, since they are not completely available.

Perception of Oriental Medicine in unfamiliar people

On the other hand, there are many people who do not have the knowledge about this Medicine and do not perceive it in any way, with all that, they manage to conceive it internally and intangibly, well, they recognize it and feel that it exists and is real, this consists of , our being connects with everything that vibrates with the spiritual dimension, however, these people may never take the step to have that contact with the various treatments that this medicine provides because it is a world that turns out to be for them “unknown” and not only "a stranger"; This path requires changes in everything that has been normally done throughout life, which is why such people decide to continue with what they already know rather than launching themselves and surrendering to the spiritual and integral path that Traditional Oriental Medicine offers us.

Perception of Oriental Medicine from Connoisseurs

Finally, we find in society those people who have either a basic or broad perception about the work done in Traditional Oriental Medicine and observe it as a true and applied medicine, which they know is related to energy and comprehensive well-being of the being, which works with each of the internal organs of the human body and with emotions. They are people who seem truly amazed and confident by each of the traditional and healing techniques of this medicine.

This occurs because something internal makes them understand that they are something more than matter and that they must seek balance and well-being, mental, spiritual and physical. It is these people who decide to listen to themselves, therefore, undertake the search for tools and find the path of that which manages to connect with the spiritual dimension of themselves, and in a comprehensive way, that is where Traditional Oriental Medicine it becomes part of each of their lives; because when you have that first encounter it is as if you found what the soul had sought for so long, which is, the balance and internal well-being of the being.

Having knowledge about Traditional Oriental Medicine is nice, even so, even more beautiful is having this unique connection with this Medicine.

Cultivar tu autoestima y amor propio.

En qué aspectos me crítico a mi mismo?

¿En qué pienso cuando estoy solo?

¿En qué pienso cuando no puedo dormir?

¿Cuáles son mis miedos?

¿Cómo me siento ahora mismo?

¿A qué no dedico tiempo suficiente y me gustaría hacerlo?

¿Qué actividades me gusta realizar?

The Water Meridians: Balance and Vitality Through Oriental Medicine

Water meridians

Oriental Medicine is based on the theory of the five elements to understand the functioning of the organism and its interrelationship with the environment.

Each element has particular characteristics and is associated with meridians, climate, season, color, emotion, flavor, time of day, organs and behavioral traits.

The water element is related to the following aspects.

Organs: Kidneys, Bladder

Time of day: Kidneys 3:00 – 5:00 pm, Bladder 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Emotion: Fear

Flavor: Salty

Color: Dark blue, black

Climate: Cold, winter

The water element represents life, vitality, ancestors, family and heritage from the past. This is because the Jīng 精 (Essence) energy is housed in the kidneys. This energy is:

The fundamental substance that creates everything in the universe, including the body.

She is the bearer of ancestral information.

It is stored in the kidneys and circulates through the Eight Great Vessels, helping to create semen, menstrual blood and bone marrow.

This energy is worn out throughout life and even more so with excesses, but it can be enhanced with specific practices, for example from the Dao of Sexuality, Eastern Medicine treatments, Qi Gong and Tai Chi practices.

Also, the water element is related to the ears, bones, bone marrow and spinal cord.

When the water is out of balance, you may experience some symptoms such as:

Cystitis

Dark skin color

Baggy eyes

Panic that paralyzes you from taking action

sexual problems

reproductive problems

Lower back pain

Fatigue

kidney stones

How do I know if I have an imbalance in this element?

A diagnosis from an Oriental Medicine doctor is important to determine which element the imbalance is in, since some symptoms may appear to be from one element, but the root may arise from another.

What habits to include to balance water?

Moderate salt consumption.

Balance with sexual practices.

Practice Taichí and Qi Gong.

Flow with changes.

Face fears with courage.

The 5 elements are interrelated.

In the case of the water element, it is nourished with the earth element and directly influences the balance of the fire, therefore, an imbalance of the water element can be treated from another element.

Description of each water meridian

The bladder meridian

It is the longest in the body, it has 67 resonating points.

Bladder function

It collects the water that the other organic structures did not use. This is why it is considered a humble organ since oriental medicine, since it allows the greatness of others. In addition, it makes it an organ that contains the information of the totality of being, so in its energy meridian, imbalances of the entire organism can be treated.

Awakening consciousness: the paths of meditation towards a full and conscious life.

“Meditation is not only a technique, but it ends up becoming an attitude towards life. An increased state of attention that allows you to live the world with greater wealth and depth of everyday experience. ”

(José María Doria)

What is meditation?

It is an ancestral practice where attention is concentrated to cease identification with thoughts.

It is a state of attention and presence that allows living life with more awareness, you can develop and train through different concentration techniques

benefit

- Reduce stress and anxiety.

- Help live more present.

- It generates greater awareness.

- Pass self -knowledge.

- Help the management of emotions.

- Expand the mental perspective (it allows you to see more points of view) and have more empathy.

- It improves physical health: strengthens the immune system, increases memory and learning capacity, improves cardiovascular health, reduces inflammatory processes, helps reduce or tolerate pain, improve sleep,

- Among many others!

¿Why meditation practice?

In today's society the surface dimension tends to predominate; Addictive stimuli prevail, material objects, the search for pleasure, and the lack of deep values ... sooner or later the absence of the transcendent sense of life appears.

Meditation reconnects with the internal dimension, dynamizes self -discovery and awakening of consciousness, while remembering about infinite essence.

It helps to accelerate the process of de-conditioning of the reactive mind: helping to transcend automatic habits and conditioned patterns.

It is an antidote against stress, fears, anxiety and depression, since it awakens a deep sense to existence and, in addition, you can unlock and heal aspects of the unconscious (repressed material that tends to express itself through destructive emotions) .

What is the relationship of meditation and oriental medicine?

In addition, Oriental Medicine can use specific meditations to treat some imbalances, since they work on a mental and energetic level, achieving significant changes in the health of patients.

Qi Gong and Tai Chi, considered as meditations in movement, are also part of the preventive practices and as part of the treatment of Oriental Medicine.

Although there are many types of meditative techniques, in general, three important aspects of the practice are taken into account:

posture

◦ Sitting with a straight back, relaxed body, legs and arms uncrossed (You can practice in a chair or sitting on a cushion on the floor. It is not recommended to meditate lying down to avoid falling asleep).

Some styles emphasize that the person should not move during the meditation time, other techniques allow you to move a little to adjust the body and then remain still again.

RESPIRACIÓN

◦ Pay attention to breathing. A conscious breathing of its four moments: Inhalation, pause, exhalation and pause.

ATTITUDE

◦ Eyes closed; Slight hint of a smile.

◦ Acceptance of thoughts, emotions and sensations.

◦ Constant observer of sensations, emotions and thoughts without judging.

◦ Presence, experience of the here and now.

◦ Return to the present every time you get lost.

Some styles of meditation

– Meditation with mantras: Repetition of specific sounds or vibrations that seek to lead to states of presence and healing.

– Presence Meditation: Focuses on concentrating on the present without judging what you observe and detached from the content of the mind.

Tai Chi: This is an ancient practice that combines conscious movements with breathing. It is an internal martial art that works the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body.

Qi Gong: It is an ancient art focused on creating and balancing Qi through body movements, visualization and breathing.

Yoga: The physical practice of yoga (asanas) is linked to conscious breathing.

Meditation myths:

To meditate you must put the meditation blank:

Meditation avoids fighting with thoughts, it accepts them, but does not identify with them. Therefore, the aim is not to have a blank mind, but rather to concentrate the mind on the object of attention, and every time the mind is distracted, return it to the practice of concentration.

Meditation goes against religion:

Most meditations are suitable for all types of people, since they are secular. What this practice does is train the mind to learn to live more present.

Meditation is to promote paranormal experiences.

The goal of meditation is to develop consciousness, its focus is not the development of paranormal experiences.

My problems are solved with a few weeks of practice.

The constant practice of meditation can bring many benefits and can give greater awareness to face life's situations.

I have to meditate many hours to receive the benefits.

Quality and consistency are more important than quantity. It is preferable to do the meditation practice for a few minutes every day and that it can be adopted into the person's lifestyle.

The practice of meditation helps you escape from reality.

This practice allows you to see yourself as you are with acceptance and love, while helping you disidentify from thoughts and connect with your own essence.

¿How can you start meditating?

– Find a space where you can be silent for a few minutes.

– Sit in a comfortable position, it can be with your legs crossed or on a chair, with your back straight without resting it on the backrest.

– Focus on being as comfortable as possible without moving, it can be just a few minutes.

– Become aware of your breathing, observe your thoughts, emotions and sensations, imagining that they are clouds traveling through the sky.

¿How can you make meditation your lifestyle, living more present and conscious?

When you perform any action in your routine, focus all your attention on what you do, placing emphasis on the senses: what do you smell, taste, feel on your skin, observe, hear?

Avoid judging the experience as good or bad, open yourself to living it with acceptance of what it is.

«Cultivando Relaciones Sanas: El Arte de Amar, Comunicar y Crecer Juntos»

Healthy relationships are essential to live a life full of well -being and quality. They are the pillar that supports our social and emotional interactions.

To build and maintain healthy relationships, it is necessary to devote time and effort to work in ourselves and be aware of the people we choose to have in our lives.

In this blog, we mention the key elements to cultivate healthy relationships: self-knowledge, assertive communication and emotional management.

You will learn how you can improve your existing relationships and create new healthy connections, allowing you to live a full and meaningful life.

Self -knowledge: the basis for personal and relational growth

Self -knowledge is a life trip that allows us to understand who we are really.

It is the foundation on which we build our relationships with others. By knowing our own needs, desires, fears, traumas, and deeply held beliefs, we can make more conscious decisions about the people around us and the relationships we cultivate.

Self -knowledge can be promoted through various practices, such as journaling, meditation, introspective reflection and professional support.

By asking ourselves deep questions and exploring our personal history, we can discover patterns and wounds that have affected us in our past and present relationships.

By understanding and healing these wounds, we free ourselves to build healthy and balanced relationships.

Assertive communication: building bridges of understanding and respect

Assertive communication is a fundamental ability to cultivate healthy and significant relationships.

It is about expressing ourselves clearly, respectful and without attacking others. Assertive communication requires self -confidence and self -knowledge to identify our own needs and desires, as well as the ability to express them effectively.

By communicating in this way, we avoid unnecessary conflict and foster mutual understanding.
